Happy 4th Helpers

It's about time these two started earning their keep around here!
Liam watching closely so he knows what to do!
Uh, not sure he was happy about me watching him!
He does LOVE telling people to stop, shush, no, or mine...all of the time!

These two loved helping their Daddy get ready for our July 4th cookout!

It was pretty cute watching this trio complete their job!

HK's First Love Letter

HK loves to snuggle at bedtime...especially with her Daddy.  We both love this time because she is usually chatty and inquisitive.  9 times out of 10 Daddy also falls asleep and usually first!

Last Monday morning HK had another "idea".  She wanted to have a "surprise party for Daddy because he works so hard for us".  I am trying to do vacation laundry and get normal life back in order, but how do you say no to that request?  So once the boys laid down for their naps, I dedicated the afternoon to helping her with this idea.

We had to make signs.
Then we had to get all of her dolls dressed and arrange them in our room (only place the boys wouldn't bother them).
Then we made cookies.
After all of that was in place, we went to the computer and she dictated a letter for Daddy.
I typed verbatim what she said...
"My Dearest Daddy,
Thank you for being my Daddy.  Thank you for giving me the money that the hospital pays you every week for food and our home.  Daddy I love you.  Thank you for giving me presents at my birthday and at Christmas and everywhere we go.  I had fun playing all the games with you.  I had fun at vacation swimming together.  It was fun.  And thank you for swimming with me.  These words that I written and said to you are true.  I love you so much Daddy.  You are a Daddy that does great things for me and loves Jesus and serves Him.  I will always love you no matter what.  I always want to be with you.  I still want you to be at home with me than work.  I wish we could have fun everyday together.  I love you Daddy.  I know that we always have fun.  I have fun with you too.  It will always be fun wherever we go.  I love you Daddy always, no matter what wherever you go.  I will never forget you no matter what.  Wherever you go I will still be looking at the moon with you.  I know that you know that I love you too.  Thank you for being the most wonderful Daddy.  I love you Daddy.  Next vacation can we have a Daughter Daddy Date?  I want to have fun with you.  I always want to be with you.  Thank you for so much for how hard you work for us.  You done great.  I'm just going to say this, but you are the best doctor there!  You have done great things for our family.  You have done great things for Liam, Nolan, Betsy, and me.  This is what I have said to you and I hope you have a good surprise.  So Daddy I love you.  These words that I have said today are true.  This is what we have done together.  No matter what we have done together we still want to be together.
Hallie-Kate"

It's official...HK has written her first love letter!
Daddy has won her heart!

Annual Holiday World Adventure

We made our annual Holiday World trip for HK's birthday.  This year we went the Monday afterwards for several reasons.
As per my Holiday World rule...must be 36" tall to go... Liam will get to go next year.
So the four of us set off...
and had a great day together!
HK rode the Legend with her Daddy.  She was tall enough to ride anything in the park.  She was pretty pumped about this.  I think it did scare her pretty good!  Nolan loved the log ride the best.  He literally rode it 4 times in a row without getting off the ride.

This makes the 5th year we have celebrated HK's birthday here.

And once again it was a fun filled tiring day!

Bike Riding 201

HK's small bike with training wheels had bit the dust.  She literally wore it out.
So she and her Daddy went bike shopping.
They came home with a super duper big girl bike!
It was honestly too big for her to realistically ride without training wheels.
That's what happens when Mom doesn't go along!
 Oh we tried....and tried...and tried!
 And she could do it!
The problem is that the bike is too tall for her to be able to stop without literally falling off.
So she scored her first bike boo-boo!

I told her to take pride in it and show it off to people!
Of course, she didn't want to get back on...... BUT this mean Mommy made her.
Eventually the training wheels had to go back on because her legs aren't long enough yet to start and stop.  So we will give it another try later.  In the meantime, we are taking some awesome family bike rides because she can keep up with us easily with her training wheels.

HK Year 6 in Review

I always put this post off as long as possible because each year it gets harder to do!
So Baby Girl...let's see how far you have come...
Being held by your Grammy the day you were born 6-8-06

 One year old

Two years old

Three years old
and one of my all time favorite pics!

Four years old...sporting the unforgettable broken arm

Four years old and for sure our little dancer

Five years old

Highlights from this past year...
You had a lot happen!
You love a relaxing bubble bath.  Although most days now, you shower all by yourself!

First pedicure on vacation last year...we had a child's version together (with Nana too).

First day of kindergarten
You loved school!!!

When I need to clean the van...I just put you all in to play!

First cheerleading clinic

Creative...you are soooo creative HK!  You have great ideas and are always wanting to make some elaborate project.  If you see an empty box you grab it up before I can throw it away.  You have made Buzz Light Year gear, a fairy house, a tv, and many other things from Amazon boxes.  It's never a simple project!  We had a big elaborate tea party with Greatie and Nana.  We had a surprise party just recently for your Daddy to show him thanks for how hard he works (your idea).  I love that you have so many creative juices!

Daddy's girl for sure!!!  When nothing else will soothe or calm, you bet your bottom dollar Daddy can!
You recently wrote him the most amazing letter which I will share later.

We went to our first Disney Princess show in November...just me and you!

You had your first concert!  Daddy & I took you, Jessica and Reagan to see Jamie Grace and Toby Mac.  You enjoyed it but couldn't quite make it to the end...you fell asleep!

In November, we took you with us when we reclaimed the house in Springfield.  It was where you lived for the first year of your life.  We had this great sentimental idea in our head and it actually ended disastrous.  You were scared because the alarm system kept going off and the inside was a huge mess/dirty.  You were appalled.  You still talk about how they didn't take care of our house.

You can be such a big helper!!!  You have even changed a diaper or few.  Liam is actually very good for you.  He is your buddy!

You got to meet John Broom our long time friend and pastor from Capetown, South Africa.  You buddied right up to him and enjoyed playing with him.

Ahhh how could I forget this creative moment that you conned your Grampy into.  You wanted to make scarecrows this past fall.  So you and Grampy had this great adventure of creating three amazing scarecrows for our front porch.  We stored them nicely in the garage.  Hopefully we can pull them out next year too.

Merry Christmas
(we actually all five had these pjs)

You and Greatie from the elaborate tea party in February.

One of your many Daddy-Daughter dates

Making your first Valentine's box - it was a flower pot.

Meeting your new cousin Masen for the first time!

I love to watch your relationship with Nolan continue to develop.  You guess fight like crazy and play/love like crazy!  He also thinks you are pretty great.

Definitely my dancing diva using the doll stroller to help empty the trashcans.  This is one of your responsibilities as part of the Oldham team.

You lost your first tooth in May

You got your ears pierced for Kindergarten graduation

Your 2nd dance recital...you love getting up on that stage!
Your face lights up the whole place!

Kindergarten graduation
Daddy & I are so proud of you!

This is you...dancing anywhere that you can!

Your photos with Sarah were so entertaining, once again.
You were striking poses left and right.
We didn't have to give many suggestions.
You were a riot!

Oh HK!!!!  There are so many things that I want to say to you, but I will try to keep it short (for me)!
The thing I have loved watching the most this year is how you have grown in your knowledge and love for the Lord.  Jesus is growing your heart with a great love for Him.  You struggle greatly at times with some attitudes and disobedience, but we are trying our best to teach you and guide you the way Jesus would want us to.  You have such a heart for others and serving them.  I cannot wait to see how you glorify the Lord through your years.
Your personality continues to grow with you.  You have thoughts and opinions on everything.  There is still no rhyme or reason to things that you allow to scare you and things that don't.  You have severe stranger danger which is good as long as you don't freak out.  Sometimes you get hysterical because you are afraid your brothers are going to get stolen.  We are working on relaxing and trusting!
We measured you this week at Nana & Grampy's and you are already taller than Mommy, Uncle Kent, and Aunt Ang were at 7 years old.  It won't be long before you catch me and pass me.
You LOVE your dolls!  It is only appropriate because you are such a little mother hen!  I love watching you care for them and play with them!  I keep trying to clean out and get rid of some, but it's so hard because you play with them all.
You love to sing and make up songs!  Sometimes at night we will sing back and forth to each other and make up one huge song.  You were super excited about your guitar for your birthday.
You played t-ball again this year, and it was a joy to watch you play.  You are a super athletic little girl.  You have also started golfing with your Daddy.  I'm so glad you are going to have confidence in an area where I so greatly lacked it.
I love your thought provoking questions that come with our bed time chats.  Those are some of mine and Daddy's favorite moments.
Always be true to the young lady that God created you to be!
We love you more than you can imagine.
Watch out year number 7...HK is on her way!
