Big Sister

Or Mother HK....

She really is such a good big sister!  She truly enjoys her brothers...most of the time.  I love these pictures!

38 years

My parents just celebrated 38 years of marriage.  I can remember how many years because they celebrated 30 the week before we were married (we just celebrated 8).

So my Dad had a little trick up his sleeve this year for their anniversary.
This is the kind of car my Mom always wanted to have when she was younger.  She even use to have a model of one.  The owner of this vehicle is actually auctioning it off for a fundraiser.  Ask my Dad if you want to buy a ticket for a chance (think they are $50).   My Dad arranged with the guy to borrow it for their anniversary and surprise Mom.

They drove by to show us.  HK, Jack, and Lilli gave them an anniversary concert/send off.

Happy Anniversary Dad and Mom.  Thanks for your marriage...all that it means to you and to those that love you!

Play

It is so interesting to watch kids play!

HK has Nolan's peg board/hammer out.  I believe at first it was a bed for her dollhouse dolls.
 Then it became a van!

Taking care of her baby while watching a movie and the boys were napping.

Every once in awhile HK gets the hankering to do this.  She will find toys/objects around the house and wraps them up.  She gives someone a present.  Repeat several times!
 She did this for Nolan...
And even fixed him a card.  He had fun with it too!  She was not so nice the other morning.  She woke Nolan up telling him it was his birthday and he had presents.  Needless to say he got instantly excited.  I had to tell him no it was not his birthday and there were no presents.  Told HK that was quite a mean thing to do to her brother!

Ummm....this one I am not so sure about?  I am thinking maybe trying to do the old trick where you cut the person in half.  Eeekkk....a little disturbing.  Sorry Jasmine!

Where can I fit my contorted body?

 These are priceless...
I think Jack and Lille were pretending to get married.  HK and Nolan were the attendants.  Then they switched.

And a box is great...whenever, wherever, whomever!
HK had been asking for one for days.  Then lucky her....Amazon delivered!

Nolan at 2 1/2

He just turned two....so I'm not really sure how he is already 2 1/2.  30 Months!

As his Daddy says, he is having a testosterone surge!
This stick he is recklessly swinging around the yard is his "dinosaur stick".  I am not really sure what that is, but he is quite proud of it!  Needless to say he has this recent obsession/love of dinosaurs.  So you would think that using them as potty bribery would work...think again!  We will get to his stubbornness later!
Guess what he just drew....yep...you got it..."di-a-sore"!

While eating his pudding, HK started cracking up saying he had a mustache.  Well as you can see...it progressed to more than a mustache!  The spot on his nose was deliberate too, the little turkey!

One of his other favorite loves right now is Woody (or anything Toy Story).
Racecars (Cars characters) are a close second.

This picture could be one of those in the highlights magazine where you circle what's silly...
1) Nolan has watershoes on
2) Nolan has a cowboy hat on with his basketball shorts and shirt
3) Nolan is climbing up the slid with a broom
4) Jack has on red sparkly Jesse boots
5)  Jack is singing and dancing using a pink princess bat as his prop
6) Lilli has on HK's tap dance outfit which is too small because Lilli is taller
7)  HK has her ballet costume on backwards while trying to stand and swing on the swing
8) yes, there is a wildflower bed growing where the sandbox should be
Who needs to go to the movies when you have a great comedy in your own backyard...and much cheapier!

Sweaty little pig...that's what Nolanator is!  He sweats just thinking about being hot!  Many nights we have had to change his pjs after he goes to bed.  We go to check on him and he will literally be drenched some nights if he has too many blankets or if the fan isn't on high.

I have found his curiosity increasing over the past few months!
Hmmmm...can I fit in this basket?

Can I fit in this box?

Ahhh...there is Rex, the dinosaur from Toy Story!
I think HK had wrapped it up and given him a "present".  Note the sack and kleenex on the floor.

Again, sweaty, dirty beast at his Sissy's birthday party!

By far his best friend right now!!!  He loves her, but has also started to not let her get away with being quite so bossy!  He is teaching her that he does have a mind and opinion.

I am not quite sure how he got this napkin stuck all over him...but he did!!  I think it may have been when we had pancakes.  He actually started getting frantic because it was sticking and he couldn't get it off!

Nolan--
You are growing rapidly in so many ways these days!
You are having a surge of "look at me...i am boy...do NOT forget it"!
You do so many "boy" things that we did not teach you but somehow are coming out.
It's like someone pushed a button at 2 1/2 that gave you this extra boost of testosterone!
You are such a stubborn little guy.  Sometimes I am marveled at how you hold out.  It's actually quite impressive, even though it does lead to you getting spanked sometimes.
You like to exert your stubbornness more with me than with Daddy.  The other day you would not do something I told you to do.  We were having a standoff ...literally.  The second you saw Daddy coming in the door you immediately became compliant.  Unfortunately, it was too late and consequences still came.  You better learn soon that Daddy and I are a team big guy!
I think that some of your stubbornness is part of your resistance to potty training.  Just so you know...we will do this before fall is here.  So enjoy these last weeks (I am saying that to me as much as you)!
You LOVE dinosaurs.  Despite your stubbornness, I have somehow managed to get you to eat things you normally don't by calling it dinosaur food and telling you that you need it to be a big, strong dinosaur.  It's actually quite a fun little game with you.
You LOVE being outdoors!  I am pretty sure you would live there if we would let you!
You LOVE your evening "rough-housing" with Daddy.
You give the sweetest hugs and kisses I have ever had from a little boy!!!  We ask for hugs all the time from you because they are the best!
You have a tender heart and I love that about you!
I love your infectious laugh and heart melting smile!

The next 6 months are going to be interesting for us.  Your best pal, Sissy Kate, is going to kindergarten.  The dynamic of our days is going to change.  I know you will miss her, but at the same time, Liam is watching and can't wait to become part of your fun!  You are a fantastic Little and Big Brother my middle child!  We all love you!

Meeting Chaim

The day after Chaim was born, Grandma, HK, Nolan, and I set off to meet him!  I was super excited to meet my first nephew!

He was so snuggly and adorable!

HK couldn't wait to get her hands on him!

But Mommy got to go first!

 Even Nolan wanted a turn.
We brought the little guy a true gift....a Cardinals hat.  I told him it was okay, Uncle Nate would cry too if someone made him wear that hat.

HK even got a second turn!  She LOVES her cousins!

I can't wait to see him again soon and see how much he has changed!  What an amazing little blessing this sweet boy is to the Oldham Clan!

HK: Year 5 In Review

This just gets harder each time I get to do this!  For one, there are more pictures to get lost in each time I try to pick my favorite from the previous year.  Secondly, there are so many more memories to relive as I think about the past year.  So as I am sitting at this computer, I am going to try and do this without letting tears slip out and roll down!  Here we go...

Dear HK,
I know it is going to be years before you actually read the words that accompany these pictures!  All the cliches I have disliked through my growing up years are now rolling around in my head...for example:  let's put a brick on your head!  As I like to tease you sometimes..."Would you please stop growing?!"

Here you are five years ago.  Just for memory lane purposes, that is your Grammy holding you in the picture at the hospital.  You are just a few days old.  Some days it's so hard to remember being first time parents.  Then other times I remember this picture like it was yesterday.  It is so easy to see how your personality existed even then.  Since you were our first we didn't think you were a difficult baby, but we wouldn't have called you easy either.  The word I have always liked to use for you is "spirited".  Girl you have got "it".   However, "it" can be something different from day to day.  We fell in love with you instantly and that love has only grown with each day!
Who could resist this little princess?  I was so excited when we moved for Daddy's residency and I got to start staying home with you!  You have kept me on my toes every day since!
 You didn't stop growing either!
You began blossoming into an amazing little gal.  You love being with people.  As of now, you are truly an extrovert....you energize around people!  The night before, you always want to know the plan for the next day...what are we doing, where are we going!

You got this guitar for your 3rd birthday and this is one of my favorite pictures!  You love all things music!  My favorite is to hear you belting out praise and worship songs or making up your own songs.  You are quite creative in that as well!

Four years old...June 2010
As I went through your pictures from this past year, I am amazed by how eventful this past year has been for you!  Girl, you have just about done it all this year!  Hopefully, we have had some character strengthening this year!

Shortly after turning four, you had your third flower girl debut at Aunt Ang and Uncle Kenny's wedding!  Needless to say, you LOVED it and knew exactly what to do!

After we got them married off, it was time for us to move.  Daddy finished residency the same week they got married.  So you were off to your 3rd new home in 4 years.  You were going to miss your best friend, Kellen!
You guys have been quite the pair up to this point in your lives.  We did manage to see him a handful of times this year.  You are excited again because he is only going to be living 45 minutes away this year!

Saying good-bye to the only room you really knew.  You said you would miss your pink walls.

When we moved you were quite the little helper...especially with Daddy and his tools.  He let you use a little electric drill and you thought you were hot stuff!

Then, probably the most dramatic event of the year occurred the very last day of July....
You fell off the play ambulance at the play area in the Evansville mall.  It was truly awful...definitely the most awful thing I have experienced thus far as a parent.  Oh baby girl how you hurt and that made me hurt too! I was afraid the whole deal was going to send me into labor!  Thank goodness for Daddy being with us...we both needed him.  We are so blessed to have him!  You made it through and were so brave!
It wasn't long before both you and Ella got pink casts!
You would never know this was just a couple hours after the picture above!
I think your cast definitely got you some special treatment over the weeks!

It finally got to breathe and be put in a splint.  You couldn't quite bend it yet!

Then you geared up for another dramatic event in your life!

But before that...we had some more good summer fun!  After moving, we had a backyard with a fence.  You and Nolan thought it was the greatest thing.  You dug and dug and dug around in that backyard like you were finding gold!  You are so funny because you love to be super girly yet don't mind digging in the dirt!  I love that about you!
You drove in your first Hot Wheels Race at Town and Country Days...even with your splint on!

Then he came....
Little Brother #2 (a.k.a. - Liam) and you were in love once again.  You were right there with the nurse helping her do all those things they have to do to newborns!
Then after all of your hard work, you got to snuggle him!  Just after turning 4 you now had two little brothers...to mother, to boss, to pester, and to love!

If that wasn't enough, you had debut #4 as flower girl three weeks after Liam was born...these pictures are so you girlfriend!  If there is music playing, some part of your body is moving!  At Uncle Kent and Aunt Melissa's wedding you only sat down when we made you eat.
Oh how you danced your heart out!  I loved watching you!  You were also thrilled with Florida.  After our trip you kept calling it "Our Florida"...like we owned it and could go whenever we wanted or something.

We had our yearly pumpkin patch visit!

You have so much personality, drama, zest, energy, love, attitude, spirit, and many more of those type A personality traits!  Just look at your faces...you can definitely make me laugh and smile!

I can't think about this year without remembering how great of a big sister you are!!!  You are a natural!  You love playing with them!  You love doting and pestering!  You miss them when you have been apart for even just nap time!  They LOVE you too!  I can't wait to see how your relationship with them develops through the years!  You keep telling us that you want a sister.  Sweet girl I would LOVE to give you that wish, BUT there are a lot of big buts that factor in to that one...not sure Daddy will agree and if he did, you could get another brother.  Those are two pretty big factors girl!  So for now...you can just keep on being our favorite daughter!

Again, this trip down memory lane would not be complete without thinking of you and your love for baby dolls!!!  You have quite a few (and in the picture above even Nana's old ones at her house).  I love watching you play with them.  I see things that I am glad you are actually learning, and I also see some ugly things I need to change (meaning you are just imitating Mommy).  I love that you are still completely happy playing with baby dolls!  Unfortunately our culture shoves stuff down little girls throats earlier and earlier before they are ready for it!  My promise to you is to try and go against culture when I need to so that you can grow up as you should...not to soon and not too late!

You love helping me in the kitchen!  You are a very good eater.  Our house has recently undergone a new eating healthier lifestyle and you have embraced it fully...trying everything I offer.  You always have been a good eater!  The other night when we went out you told me..."Mom, I am gonna be a healthy girl!"
And licking the icing off the beaters is okay every once in awhile! :-)

You got your first Eldorado Eagle cheer uniform for Christmas!

Can I say that I love your smile!  Don't ever let anyone or anything take that from you!
We couldn't let a winter go by without bringing the snow indoors to play!

My performing diva....here you were singing "My God" by Christ Tomlin

And you have become obsessed with Rapunzel!

You played t-ball for the first time this year!  This has officially thrust us into a new season of parenthood!  I was impressed that you actually paid attention and always tried hard!  You were quite a fast little thing too!

You also had your first dance recital this year...another big first!  You loved it so much you keep asking me when you have it again!

This was taken the night before your 5th birthday.  Daddy and I always check on you every night before we go to bed.  I was getting pretty sentimental about you turning 5....so I took a little longer "checking" on you.  I even went and got the camera so I could capture your sweetness!  I love watching you and your brothers sleep!

Look out year number 6....that's all I can say....you have started it with guns a blazing! As much as I hope it's fantastic, I do hope it's not quite as eventful for you!  Although starting school will be a big one...but let's not go there just yet!

Hallie-Kate....to say Daddy and I love you just does not seem enough.  We also love chocolate, pizza, and swimming.  It is a very deep love that we have for you... so far beyond those things!  We promise to do our best to help you grow in your love for God, your love for others, and many other things along the way!  There are days that the challenge makes me shake in my boots.  There are others that I want to say...bring it on!  You are an amazing little girl that God has created!  Just this week we cut out the picture in the newspaper about Locks of Love and hung it on the wall by your hair-bows.  The picture intrigued you and you asked Nana to read it to you.  After processing it all, you told us that you wanted to grow your hair and give it to people that need it like Kristin (one of Mommy's best friend's ever who is kicking the butt of breast cancer right now).  My heart melted that you would care enough to do something like that.  I was actually getting ready to take you and get it cut off for the summer, but how can I after that?
Even though you are growing too fast, I love watching you grow!  I love watching Daddy pursue your heart!  I wish you could've seen your face this week when you had two red roses delivered to the door with a note from your Daddy asking you on a Daddy-daughter date!  Girl, he is getting serious about this.  He is going to show you what the real thing is!  There are so many things I hope for you my baby girl!  So for now, I am going to keep on praying for you and for Daddy and I as we have the wonderful opportunity to be your parents!  Girl you make this life one adventurous ride and I wouldn't have it any other way!
